--- random histo-biographical factoids ---
(easier to read and more informative than a long-winded narrative....)
-
Concealed by Shadows was recorded entirely in Scott and Andy's house.
-
The band got a start in 1994, when Kristian, Neal, and Scott began to write
songs; our first "rehearsal" took place in the basement of UK's Boyd Hall.
-
We had our first gig lined up before we had either a name or a bassist.
-
We chose Andy as our bassist because a) he lived right down the hall, and
b) we'd seen him carrying sheet music for Led Zeppelin II. We knew
he was the right choice when, at his first rehearsal, he was already making
fun of the rest of us after less than half an hour.
-
We were chosen as one of the five bands to play in WRFL's hidden talent
'95, but due to problems at the Wrocklage, the show never happened... only
one of many frustrations on the long, rocky road.
-
Neal once put together a tape containing more than twenty versions of "Sympathy
for the Devil" (including one version by AoY). In fact, he has seen
the Rolling Stones seven times on the Bridges to Babylon tour alone,
including two nights at Madison Square Garden... Now that's a real
fan!
-
Our first release, Leave Bronx, is named for a particularly wretched
movie that appeared on Mystery Science Theater 3000.
-
AoY have been known to cover such various tunes as "Maybelene" and "Theme
from Shaft."
-
Everything about AoY has a complicated story. For example: Concealed
by Shadows is our first CD, but is actually our second official release
and our third album.
-
Andy is majoring in chemistry, Scott in electrical engineering; Kristian
and Neal have degrees in mathematics and economics, respectively. There
aren't many rock and roll bands in which all of the members know and actually
use Calculus....
-
Kristian handed a copy of our first album, Brad's Sleeping, to Warren
Zevon, as Mr. Zevon was getting into his car after a show in Cincy. Who
knows whether he actually listened to it....
-
Yes, those are refrigerator magnets on the cover of Leave Bronx!
In fact, they are still on that fridge....
-
Kristian plays his black Les Paul religiously; Scott brings three guitars
to just about every show.
-
Three themes dominate discussions within the band: quoting The Simpsons,
quoting Star Wars, and good old fashioned trash-talking. If we aren't
making fun of each other, something's horribly wrong.
-
The musical influences of the band include the Stones, the Who, Led Zeppelin,
R.E.M., Thelonious Monk, Warren Zevon, Jimi Hendrix, Neil Young, Charlie
Parker, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Tori Amos, Barry White, John Williams, Living
Colour, Isaac Hayes, Miles Davis, and just about everybody else we ever
heard... except maybe The New Kids on the Block or Stryper.
-
Scott is the computer geek responsible for the ridiculously expansive webpage.
-
Copies of Leave Bronx, for sale in Lexington music stores since
early 1997, have made it to Florida, Minnesota, Nevada, and Virginia.
-
Says Kristian: "I began my career because I wanted to learn how to play
like Dave Murray and James Hetfield. So far, I'm failing miserably."
-
Seven different As of Yet songs have been broadcast several times over
FM radio in the last three years, thanks to WRFL and Z103. Viva local music!

monsters from Leave Bronx.
